I often think of myself as a hippie chic born a decade too late. Growing up in the 80’s was all about synthetic fibers, shoulder pads, big jewelry and even bigger hair. Still, I dreamed of natural gauze gypsy skirts, strappy sandals and daisy chains.
The bohemian fashions of the 60’s were inspired by a free thinking youth culture. Young people who were opposed to the Vietnam war rebelled against blind conformity. The ecology movement grew as a generation opened their eyes, minds and hearts. It’s not surprising to see these earthy fashions reemerging decades later.
Trend setting companies like Free People & Anthropologie celebrate the natural, bohemian style inspired by young revolutionaries who believed in peace, love & independent thought.
