How to keep your vintage aluminum kitchenware clean 3

This week’s Vintage FYI post is by Linda from umeone

I have had an obsession with collecting aluminum kitchenware for as long as I’ve been cooking. I’ve have been happily using my hardy beauties on a regular basis for about 35 years. I’ve never had to replace any of my gadgets and skill get a kick out of using them.

Lately I’ve come across several acquisitions with terrible tarnish and corrosion. I’ve discovered that if you put your vintage aluminum in the dishwasher they will come out discolored. In order to clean them, I first use waded up aluminum foil and lemon juice to scrub the piece. I suggest wearing gloves for this since the black tarnish will stain your fingernails. Wash the black off and use a metal rubbing compound to bring back their original luster. I found this little plastic battery operated buffing tool at the hardware store. To keep my beauties clean I wash them by hand with my green scrubby, dish soap and elbow grease, they just look better with time.
