Linneamarie from BrooklynStVintage gives us a glimpse into her home and to her vintage collections in this first installment of our Vintage Home Tours feature!
I was looking for an old cupboard to display some of my collections. I happened to see this one online and thought it was perfect. Unfortunately it lived about 400 miles away. The cupboard is solid wood with many of the old glass panels still intact. It is also one piece, about 9 foot long and 6 foot high. Shipping was not an option. As you can see, I purchased it.
My husband, (bless his heart) and I drove to pick it up. I was told by the owner it was in their garage when they bought the house many years ago. The previous owner believed it came from the University of Dayton.
We hauled it in a open trailer with the cupboard doors packed safely in our SUV. It survived the trip!
It had a finish of multiple layers of paint so I did not feel too bad about updating it’s color. The cupboard now houses quite a bit of black and white vintage pieces. I love the black and white stripes of Cathrineholm enamelware, the diamonds of the restaurant ware and polka dots of Fire King. My husband and I both agree it was worth the 800 plus mile trip.
My goal is not to fill it so full that I can’t have some space for seasonal things. In reality I will probably need another cupboard.
Linnea’s shop is filled with great vintage finds! Make sure to stop by BrooklynStVintage for a fun vintage shopping adventure!
What a treat! Neat story and gorgeous collection, Linnea! I think you found the perfect display cabinet.
WOW! Incredible! Beautifully and creatively displayed!
What a great story, Linnea. That cupboard is the perfect place for all your stripes, diamonds & polka dots to live. Much better use for it than housing some dreary old textbooks.
Love the cabinet and your collection! Thanks for sharing.
Drooling over the cabinet, the collections, the Christmas… even the bottle collection in the background on the right. I am glad you weren’t afraid of updating the color. Sometimes pieces don’t look nice in their original glory, if it was a ‘serviceable’ piece to begin with and a fresh color does enhance it more.
Thanks for sharing your home!
What a gorgeous piece, Linnea! And you’ve styled it so beautifully. Thank you for sharing it with us!
I. Love. It!! Perfection! You have a couple of keepers there. The cabinet and your husband. I wouldn’t have had the nerve to ask mine to do that. LOL
Oh my goodness ~ How perfect!! definitely worth the drive!
