Vintage Home Tour with Selective Salvage 13

Linda from SelectiveSalvage gives us a glimpse into her home and to her vintage collections in the lastest installment of our Vintage Home Tours feature!

Vesties - Man cave

My husband and I met at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Our first official date was spent digging for bottles in a Civil War era dump on the edge of the college campus. Little did we know that was the beginning of a lifelong appreciation for “the thrill of the hunt.”

We were both school teachers in the early days of our marriage so had little money to spend on non-essentials, like home decor. Our criterion for buying a piece: we had to love it, want to live with it and be able to afford it. If we thought it might be a good investment, that was nice, but it wasn’t the real reason we bought anything. Once the serious collectors discovered the things we were interested in and the prices began to rise, we moved on to collecting something new.  Thirty plus years of applying that philosophy have resulted in what I’d describe as an eclectic decorating style with the common theme being early American country.

As you can see in the photos, our family room is home to  a few of our “favorite things” : handmade pine furniture, architectural pieces, folk art decoys, stoneware, tramp art and black and white trade advertising signs.

The second photo taken at in a different year (furniture rearranged) and from a different perspective shows we also love:  country store tins, wooden boxes made by hand & about anything with its original milk-based paint.  (Please note: the collection of remote controls is strictly his. I think it’s a Y chromosome thing.)

The Arizona version of a man cave (a.k.a. our family room).
