This week’s Tastes Like Vintage recipe is from Terri, at 2ndHandChicc.
Even though our temperatures in Pennsylvania have still been in the 90s, fall is approaching. I find I bake this time of year, just to warm the house up. One of our fall favorites are apple dumplings, but I find that I don’t always have the time to make true apple dumplings. This recipe is easy to prepare and simple to make. In less than an hour, you will have a warm, fuzzy taste of fall.
Country Apple Dumplings
Ingredients:
- 4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
- 2 (10 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 cup butter
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle Mountain Dew ™
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Allow the crescent roll to sit out for 20-30 minutes.
- Cut each apple into 4 wedges and set aside. Separate the crescent roll dough into triangles. Roll each apple wedge in crescent roll dough starting at the widest end and folding the edges over to cover. Pinch to seal and place in the baking dish.
- Melt butter in a small saucepan and stir in the sugar and cinnamon. Pour over the apple dumplings. Pour Mountain Dew(TM) over the dumplings.
- Bake for 35 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.
- Serve in a bowl, topped with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of the sauce from the baking dish.
NOTE: Reduced fat crescent rolls or Diet Mountain Dew can be used interchangeably without affecting flavor.
Mix the melted butter with the other ingredients.
Bake in the oven for 35-45 minutes.
Anything served in vintage bowls is automatically better.
Grab your use a knife, fork or our preferred, a spoon to dig in and enjoy the crisp pastry and warm apples.
Enjoy with a cup of coffee, best shared with a friend.
This is truly happiness in a bowl for us and yes, I prefer to enjoy it with a cup of coffee.
Yum, yum, yum…this is for both the recipe and the fabulous vintage items that go with it. This recipe is a must try! Thanks for posting. 🙂
