This week’s Tastes Like Vintage recipe is from Laurie, at MetroCottage.
This is a 30+ year old recipe for Homemade Irish Cream, similar to Bailey’s Irish Cream. It was given to me many years ago by a friend I’ve lost contact with, but I make a batch or two every year and think of Julia!
The recipe comes out to be about half the cost of the bottle of Bailey’s and I have yet to find anyone who could tell the difference, especially in coffee!!
Homemade “Irish Cream”
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 c. Brandy or Whiskey (I use E&J brandy, but you can use whiskey)
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk- 8 oz.
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 1 tsp instant coffee
- 1 Tbsp chocolate syrup
- 2 eggs- well beaten, then add to blender
- 1 pint heavy cream
DIRECTIONS:
- Pour into blender in the order given in the ingredient list, except for the heavy cream.
- Mix well.
- Add cream last, in several batches.
- Blend until well mixed. The blender glass will be full, so you may need to go a bit slower…..
Makes about 2 wine bottles full.
Refrigerate up to 2 weeks (but you’ll be lucky if it lasts that long! LOL)
I know the ingredients sound weird, but believe me you will love it! I usually bring it as my “hostess gift” to holiday parties and always bring a bottle to my Christmas Day celebration with my brother. We love it over ice, or with coffee.
