A Vestie Interview with AnEyeForVintage 3

Tell us about yourself.
I absolutely love fashion and great style. I get my regular dosage from fashion magazines and fashion blogs. My favourite pastime used to be shopping; I was in stores weekly buying the latest fashion trend pieces. I realized that fashion was influenced by history and was often duplicated. That’s when I became interested in style icons such as Audrey Hepburn and vintage fashion from the 1950’s-1970’s and I wanted to educate myself more about the construction and details of those garments.
Why Vintage?
I will never forget the first time I entered my local thrift store, I recall being a little uncomfortable and overwhelmed by all the clothing and accessories that were surrounding me. Within a matter of 5 minutes, I stumbled across a gorgeously detailed vintage tan leather shoulder bag and at that moment I discovered a new found love. That was a little over 3 years ago and since then I have been regular thrift and market shopper seeking out great vintage pieces. Vintage allowed me the opportunity to in incorporate unique and beautiful pieces into my wardrobe. After I had requests by people to take them vintage shopping or sell them pieces from my closet, I decided to open an online vintage shop.

Why Etsy?
I stumbled across etsy after searching for an outlet to sell my clothing. I chose etsy, because it was simple to set up my store layout, manage my orders, get exposure and of course listing my items. The greatest benefit of starting with etsy was I didn’t have a large start up budget and etsy was a great low cost option.

Where and how do you find the pieces for your shop?

Canada unfortunately does not have the rich fashion history like other countries such as Europe or United States, so it takes more work for me to find great pieces. Personally, one of things that influence what pieces are sold at my shop is that they need to be well constructed and detailed. I look for and find pieces in thrift stores, local markets, estate and garage sales.

Tell us about your style.
Yves Saint Laurent said, “Fashion fades, style is eternal” and that is a quote I live by. I love fashion but appreciate great style more. Incorporating vintage pieces allows great opportunity to achieve a unique look and style. As I mentioned earlier I love fashion and although I have retired my shopaholic days, I still keep myself updated about the latest fashion. However now that I am a bit wiser, I own and buy more timeless pieces. I actually buy trends in vintage or thrift; it’s more economical for me. My style incorporates bright colours and great accessories which are reflected in the pieces I sell in my shop.
