On Our Way To Bakersfield…What’s that Noise? 2

Central California Vesties Meet-up, come on along for the ride and bring your seam binding!

I woke up early, very excited to get on the road to meet-up with my fellow Vesties in Bakersfield.
Julie from www.paperjar.etsy.com had worked long and hard to make this a memorable event!
Martha, our leader from www.OpenDoorStudio.etsy.com , sent the team atlas to my home earlier in the week. It’s a traveling World Atlas that stores our Team Spirit award. The atlas shows up whenever Vesties get together so all can sign. Besides the atlas, Martha sent Etsy swag left over from the Etsy booth at Junk Bonanza. The Vesties were selected to represent Etsy at that premier show!
I sorted the swag and put together small gift bags to share with my teammies once we got to Bakersfield. My husband had our Jeep washed and gassed and was ready for me to get my act together and get into the car. I put two rolls of vintage seam binding in the car so I could tie a bow around the gift bags, had my scissors, map, camera, and cash. Off we went! We live in the country and drove 5 miles to the Freeway. Everything is good! All of a sudden, once we picked up speed on the Freeway, a horrendous dragging noise occurred from underneath the car. My husband pulled over and checked underneath…the cover to the engine was dragging! We had 120 miles to go, we were out in the boonies and I wasn’t going to miss this meet-up for all the tea in China! Gerry always has tools and so forth in the car but, not this time. He asked me if I had any rope in my purse. Really? Rope? Noooo…..

Etsy to the rescue! I had SEAM BINDING! It was vintage, one roll was Etsy orange and the other was Etsy turquoise! And..I had scissors! I cut strips of seam binding and my husband crawled under the Jeep and tied up the loose cover. Whew! We were saved and on the road again. Once we got to the nearest town, we pulled into a gas station to buy rope. I guess vintage seam binding doesn’t really hold a car together. And, my husband bought Etsy turquiose rope! Yay! I trained him right!
