‘Tis the season to break out the witches and pumpkins! Or is it?
There is so much more you can do with a Halloween theme beyond the traditional black and orange decor and leering Jack-o-lanterns! Yes, Halloween is based on a creepy tradition of spirits rising from beyond the grave, but those of us with small children need to tone down the spooky skeletons and bleeding brains and find a balance between kitschy and nightmarish 🙂
Luckily, vintage-lovers have it easy when it comes to finding charming and unique Halloween decor. The holiday lends itself perfectly to beautiful vintage graphics, and paper memorabilia is not only easy to find, but very affordable.
Today I’ll show you a fun way to tie together various unrelated Halloween ephemera with a whimsical vintage apothecary theme. In the treasury below, you can see how beautifully the aged, antique graphics on the old books, cards and tags become part of a whole when they’re paired with a fun collection of vintage bottles of all shapes and sizes.
The graphics featured here are muted, finely detailed, and can be absorbed into many different room color schemes without clashing. The bottles aren’t overly themed, just evocative of a bygone era. When displayed together, the overall impression is of age and tradition, not fear or gore.
This collection would look just lovely on a hall table, or on a set of black shelves. All of the graphics don’t need to be Halloween-specific either; in the background of Copper & Tin’s photo you can see how well a vintage ledger page sets off the theme. Old wood would add a lot to the look as well.
