Shop of The Week – Old Vintage Goodies 9

1. Can you tell us a little bit about you and your shop:
My name is Adrienne and I am a SAHM who home schools 2 teenage boys. I have been married to my best friend for almost 17 years. As a SAHM, I have always looked for activities that I could do that would bring in extra money for our family and still work with my kids home schooling schedules. I tried quite a few home business ventures that ended up as dismal failures.

A brief job with a dot com business sparked my interest in all things online. I began to spend lots of time browsing and reading blogs about online selling. The thought intrigued me and I began to mull it over. In May of 2011 I told my dear hubby that I was going to give it a try and I listed my first item on the other e site. I soon fell in love with the way it fit perfectly with our family and especially with my personality. The only thing I wasn't too pleased with was the fact that I really had no desire to sell the newer items I was selling.

In the quest for inventory, I would visit estate sales and I soon realized that I was drawn to all the vintage goodies that my mom and dad used to collect when I was a kid. We used to spend every weekend in the summer visiting yard sales. I used to buy all my school clothes that way and my parents added to their collections. My dad loves books and my mom loves anything farm or country living related. I knew I needed to find somewhere to sell VINTAGE!

After finding a vintage gas mask at one of these estate sales, a friend with an Etsy shop told me I should look in to selling it there. I had never heard of Etsy before. I looked it over and was very impressed with the site and how well it would fit with what I knew I wanted to sell. I opened Old Vintage Goodies in June of 2011 and I loved it! Yes, the gas mask was my very first sale!

OVG has grown in the past couple of years from a hobby to my full time business (along with 2 other online shops). I love every aspect of running my shops from purchasing, taking pictures, listing, customer service, and even packing and shipping sold items!
2. What is your favorite era and why?

I don't think I have a favorite era. I have very eclectic tastes in what goes into my shop but I do have items I am really drawn to. I love all the things that remind me of my childhood and my family. Old toys, games, books, home decor, collectibles, etc.

After selling for awhile, I think every shop owner eventually finds that item that makes your heart go pitter-pat. Vintage glassware is what owns my heart. I love it! I love the variety of colors, shapes, and the challenge of making it look as stunning in photos as it does sitting in my home. I want someone else to fall in love with it through my pictures. I can't pass it up!

3. What is your favorite item in your shop at the moment?

Definitely the 1970s Noritake Perspective glasses in tangerine. The orange and yellow colors are just stunning and I must talk myself out of keeping them every time I pass them on my shelves.
