This week’s Shop of the Week is VintageShelfAndWall owned by Maureen.
What is the meaning behind your shop name?
I think I could have chosen a better for my shop name, but I was excited and anxious to get the shop going. I had wanted to convey that my items were useful as well as pleasing to the eye, but couldn’t figure out a way to include it all.
How did you get your start selling vintage?
I started on ETSY selling jewelry made with repurposed vintage pieces. When I discovered that I could sell all vintage, it was a dream come true. My house is full of useful vintage but I don’t collect it. This way I can find it, admire it and pass it along. I love to help people reconnect with a piece of their past.
What is your favorite item in your shop right now, and what makes it special to you?
I can’t believe that no one has wanted my frog playing an accordion wall pocket. He is one of my favorites and always makes me smile. In fact, I think I have the perfect place for him in my kitchen.
What is the most unusual or amazing item you have sold from your shop?
The most amazing thing I have sold was a powder box with a portrait of a woman with a veil. I wasn’t sure what it was, but it called to me. Through research I discovered that it was a portrait of a saint I had never heard of, Saint Fabiola. A victim of an abusive marriage, she is the patron saint of difficult marriages, the divorced and the abused. Although this doesn’t apply to me personally, I donate my jewelry every year to the fundraiser for the local women’s shelter. I sold this box to a couple who had named their little girl Fabiola and were collecting items related to her namesake.
Love your shop Maureen! So many unique items to choose from. Wishing you continued success with your shop!
