Shop of the Week- Look What the Cat Dragged In 7

This week’s Shop of the Week is Look What The Cat Dragged In, owned by Kristie.

What is the meaning behind your shop name?

When I was married my last name had Cat in it. I thought of using Vintage Cat but that was taken; so one day as I was trying to figure out a name my daughter said” LOOK WHAT THE CAT DRAGGED IN!” would be a great name, so the name of my shop was born. Having my kitties is a wonderful bonus and a great prop for my shop.

How did you get your start selling vintage?

I have always been a girl who loved vintage. I remember going to rummage sales, garage sales and thrift stores at a young age. I think my mom inspired me to search thrift stores in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach to find high-end clothing at an affordable price. I think that the real turning point to starting my store was the day I went to a crazy eccentric estate sale in Hood River. At the sale I purchased so many great things but I could not use them all. I just knew someone else would love them and could use them, so began my Etsy vintage store. I used to have a flax-seed pillow business on Etsy but I was not really selling very many pillows. Shortly after opening my vintage store, the sales started to surpass my handmade flax-seed pillow shop. My focus is now only on my vintage store and I only sell my pillows to friends and family.

What is your favorite item in your shop right now, and what makes it special to you?

I love these trays. I love the design of them with the Red Antherium flower. They remind me of Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the great designs of the 1950s.  They also remind me of my time in my teens when I spent time in Los Angeles.

What is the most unusual or amazing item you have sold from your shop?

I have had a couple great items pass though my shop. One was this wonderful, like new Singer Featherweight sewing machine. What made this machine so great was that it was in like new condition and some of the attachments were still in their original packaging. The estate that the machine came from was filled with items from the 1950s,1960s and 1970s. It was like stepping back in time.

Do you sell your items at other venues outside of Etsy? If so, where can we find you?

No, I only sell on Etsy. I did end up meeting a man at Starbucks for local pickup after he purchased $400.00 worth of items from my shop. We still communicate today and he has invited me out on a date!

What social media platforms do you use? Share your links with us, so we can follow you!

I am still working on getting more into social media. I grew up using a rotary phone and a black and white TV; so I am a little behind the times; but that is what makes me a perfect fit for selling vintage because I am vintage too!

About Mary - PassedBy

I have always enjoyed finding and using vintage items in my home, and am especially fond of vintage linens with embroidery or handwork details. I collect a wide variety of vintage goods including classroom memorabilia and toys. As a seller, I try to follow the advice - buy what you love. This makes it so much easier to create an online shop with vintage items I would gladly use in my own home.

Hey Kristie! Loved reading your “story” and getting to know you better. Love your shop…and your shop name too. I am also vintage and “behind the times” when it comes to social media! So…are you gonna go out on that date? 🙂

Great story, Kristie! I love those trays! I find I enjoy being able to share fabulous treasures with others too.

I just had a conversation with my kids that they have no idea the challenges of having a ‘private’ conversation when you were limited by the length of the phone cord in the hallway. Of course, they don’t use their phones to actually talk on them, so they looked at me like I was crazy. 😀

Hi, Kristie: Congratulations on your honorary post as “Shop of the Week.” It was nice getting to know you and your wonderful shop. Since I see you most every day on the “Give Me Five” thread, I know how hard you work on your Etsy shop. I loved seeing the scenic photos on your “About” page . . . you certainly live in a beautiful part of the country. Thanks, again, for letting me get to know more about you and your shop.
