This week’s Shop of the Week is HoneyandSea, owned by Dana.
What is the meaning behind your shop name?
I live by the sea, Gibraltar is surrounded on 3 sides by the Atlantic Ocean & Mediterranean Sea. I’ve started to sell vintage with my grandmother’s creations, she used to crochet every day doilies, lace, and edging for linens. Most of them were honey coloured, my aunt kept them and passed them to me when I told her about my shop; I thought at that time I would sell mainly lace.
How did you get your start selling vintage?
I was trying my hand selling in the local market – little crafted items, jewellery, watercolours; almost all the other sellers were offering vintage items. I’ve always liked vintage, the temptation was there, so I started to buy from them, and slowly I’ve gathered a small collection. From there to selling vintage was only a small step.
What is your favorite item in your shop right now, and what makes it special to you?
I like bone sewing & crochet tools, so my favourite item from my shop is in fact this very small collection:
bone tools
What is the most unusual or amazing item you have sold from your shop?
Hard to answer as there are few items I really really liked – this Stanhope Edwardian bone dip pen was very elegant and pretty.
SOLD!
