Shop of The Week – Franziska 12

1.  My name is Sharon (The name of my shop comes from my middle name, Franziska, which was also the name of my Great Grandmother) and I live on beautiful Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands of WA State.

I’ve passionately loved jewelry all my life and have always enjoyed studying and learning about it…and of course collecting and wearing it!  I was trained as a fine artist – a painter and printmaker – but, after experiencing health issues directly related to the art materials and processes I was using, I became more focused on my love of jewelry and took additional classes on jewelry making.  What began as a way to thin out my own personal collection quickly became a small business that I found really enjoyable and fulfilling.  I love to help the right piece find the right person!  Helping a customer celebrate a special occasion is really an honor…whether it is an engagement, wedding, anniversary, birthday or birth of a child.

2.  It’s hard to choose just one era that is my favorite…they all had beautiful pieces and special attributes, but if I had to choose I would probably say the Edwardian era, followed by the Art Deco era.  Edwardian pieces tended to have such incredible detail work and were so feminine…with diamonds featured very prominently, and I am particularly interested in old cut diamonds.

3.  My favorite item in my shop at the moment is my “Stunning Art Deco Platinum Diamond Ring” which features a large and simply gorgeous old European cut diamond with wonderful clarity.  It has a simple elegance and a great presence on the hand….it’s a piece that I would have loved to add to my own collection!
