Don’t you just love those old football player with the leather helmets?  Doesn’t the whole idea of preppy sports fans bundled in long wool coats waving felt pennants for their team make you feel warm and cozy?

That’s the whole idea behind decorating with vintage — recreating a warm and cozy feeling in your home using unique items that spark a memory.

Here I’ve collected a group of vintage sports trophies, which are stunning on their own, but can look a bit too posh for a cozy room.  I’ve paired them with an array of worn and warm “sports fan” memorabilia, from actual sports equipment to soft plaid blankets and coolers.

This look would work well in a family room or finished basement, setting off a worn brown leather couch, or some soft easy chairs and lots of wood bookshelves.  While searching for vintage trophies on Etsy, I saw a number of them that had not been polished, and realized that the key to keeping this look fresh is to polish that silver.  Leaving the trophies in their aged state can be lovely in some cases, but in a family room they will make your space look as though it needs a good cleaning.  And we have kids to provide that function, don’t we? 😉
