1. Can you tell us a little bit about you and your shop
Hi, I’m Chantal. I live in Dorset in the South West of England with my husband and 3 children. I come from a very eclectic family, I’m half Swiss, a quarter Polish and a quarter English with German and Spanish uncles to boot. I got to spend my holidays in the Swiss Alps as a child, riding on the back of a vintage tractor, it was idyllic. I got my love of vintage from my mum, although her tastes are much more sophisticated then mine! I always find myself looking at the really kitsch stuff. Show me a stall with flamingoes and deers on and I’m all over it! I’m really lucky that my mum now lives in France so most of the things I have for sale are from the depot vent or vide greniers. We spend hours looking at all the French goodies and my 9 year old has got the bug too! They seem to have so many wonderfully kitsch items for me to find, fall in love with and buy.
2. What is your favourite era and why?
I really love the 40’s and 50’s. The fashion was amazing and I’m in love with all vintage homeware. Everything seems to have style as well as function. Things were made to last not be thrown away within a year. I know life was very hard then but I still have a romantic view of the way people lived. No mobile phones or computers to complicate life.
3. What is your favourite item in your shop at the moment?
I have to say that I love everything in my shop, I’m only drawn to things I love. Having said that I have a particular fondness for all the deers and my favourite of them all is this gorgeous fella.
