This week’s shop of the week is SentimentalFavorites, owned by Mary.
What is the meaning behind your shop name?
Almost all my personal collections stem from sentimentality about items from my childhood, particularly china and glassware my grandma had and still used. So when the business name I was already using for my brick and mortar antique business, Life’s Little Pleasures, was taken, I decided on Sentimental Favorites for my Etsy shop.
How did you get your start selling vintage?
Once I started going to auctions and estate sales in the late ’80s to scout for the Queen Mary and Tearoom pink Depression glass, Cambridge Blue Caprice elegant glassware, and Hall’s Crocus and Universal Cat Tail dinnerware that my husband I collected, there was so much other great stuff to buy and learn about that I started getting things I didn’t actually collect. It wasn’t long before I had enough inventory to rent a small booth in a mall … and away I went, although always on a small scale.
What is your favorite item in your shop right now, and what makes it special to you?
Although I don’t collect much of it myself I’m hugely attracted to barware like this:
What is the most unusual or amazing item you have sold from your shop?
This Eva Zeisal Tri-Tone individual casserole with lid was an early score when I had first opened my Etsy shop: SOLD!
Do you sell your items at other venues outside of Etsy? If so, where can we find you?
I have a booth at Isaac’s Antiques in Mt. Horeb, Wis., and I also sell at the Madison (Wisconsin) Antiques & Collectibles Show. My friend Joan schedules this small show for the first Sunday after the Super Bowl, which is brilliant timing for Wisconsinites who now need something to do when there’s no football to plan their Sunday’s around. 🙂

Very nice to learn more about you and your shop, Mary.
Wonderful story and a great shop! Thanks so much for sharing your vision.
Hi, Mary: I’m already a fan of your beautiful shop thanks to the Give Me Five thread. I’m not far away from Mt. Horeb, so I think I’ll have to plan a visit to Isaac’s Antiques. Thanks for sharing your story with us.
Very fun reading your back story, Mary. “Sentimental Favorites” is the perfect name. Sentimentality is the reason most of us started collecting, so I can definitely relate to your thought process.
So nice getting to know you better, Mary! Love your aqua pottery collection on your About page! Best wishes!
Such a lovely shop, Mary!! Nice to “meet” you!
