This week’s Shop of the Week is Vintage Finds France, owned by Solveig.
What is the meaning behind your shop name?
The name Vintage Finds France came from “la petite trouvaille” meaning “the little find” which was the original name of shop in French version. Later, we opted to rename shop : Vintage Finds France, since shop name describe the objects we have for sale (and as we ship to International countries too).
How did you get your start selling vintage?
I have always been in love with vintage, as long as I can remember. I have always been interested in antique, oddities, bric-a-brac since my childhood. My grandma was an avid collector of enamelware, graniteware, antique coffee grinders, linens, ceramic dishes and china. She owned a small workers restaurant, where customers of all ages and social origins came in. Most of them knew of her “addiction”, so that some clients often bartered various “finds” for their daily meals. Grandma never asked where objects came from, but she wrote a permanent message on a chalkboard in French that mentioned: “Don`t exploit the poor, because he is poor; And don`t crush the needy in court”. She was my Sunshine and a generous woman too. A table was daily set up for everyone in need, in French language, we referred this as to : “la part du pauvre”.
During primary school, once a week, my twin and I had lunch in her restaurant. I was always in a hurry to get to the restaurant to admire the latest treasures she received. I so enjoyed the way she organized and put her wide collection on the shelves in the restaurant first, and then at home. I miss her so.
As a young adult, I met a few “brocanteurs” with whom I started collecting various objects I admired- some dating to the mid century. A bit later, I started hunting collectibles at flea markets, garage sales, and auction sale. It became a passion!
What is your favorite item in your shop right now, and what makes it special to you?
That is a hard question and not easy to choose from because I like them all.
I love objects featuring animals, there are few in shop, so, probably this vintage ceramic Irish Setter dog sculpture, longhaired Pointer ; this little guy is really awesome, to me.
What is the most unusual or amazing item you have sold from your shop?
Well, there is an item I did appreciate a lot that sold a few months ago, I was very honored to sell the impressive statue of St Honore; the Holy Patron Saint of Bakers. It is made of natural stone and Breton granite finishing. It was sold to a gentleman from Saint Louis, MO. Indeed, the owner had looked for a St. Honore (patron saint of bakers) for years. His testimonial helps us to confirm our passion for hunting for various and quirky vintage finds and to share these little treasures of the past with customers from all over the world. My hubby is my First Supporter and was an active French flea marketer some time ago, he is Passionate of Vintage and a fine Sleuth:). He found most of items available in shop.
Do you sell your items at other venues outside of Etsy? If so, where can we find you?
Another selling venue dedicated to vintage kitchen items, at pentyofamelie (in memory of my grandma whose name was Amélie), few common listings with Etsy shop there and I added some others : www.gourmly.com/shop/pentyofamelie
