This week’s Shop of the Week is BoulderBlueStudio, owned by Cindy. .
What is the meaning behind your shop name?
My favorite memories are camping with my family in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota with its blue lakes surrounded by huge, pre-Cambrian boulders. I wanted the feeling of those memories reflected in my studio and shop where vintage and organic decor complement my painted furniture.
How did you get your start selling vintage?
About 5 years ago, I began selling in a local antique shop. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was transitioning my business from painting custom painted furniture for clients to becoming an online retailer of my own products and brand! Also, I think selling antiques/vintage is in the genes. My grandma would give me her old tea cups and doilies as a child and I treasured them. I also have a sister, TheCuriousMoose, who also sells on Etsy!
What is your favorite item in your shop right now, and what makes it special to you?
If I had to pick just one item it would be this antique chest of drawers I painted. I am into indigo blue right now. And I love the details and cottage feel of the piece.
What is the most unusual or amazing item you have sold from your shop?
Well, I sold a 1940’s armadillo purse, but the item that I still think about, is a 1918 journal of a young married woman in Nebraska. She chronicled her every day routine with what she did and who she visited. Nothing exciting happened, but it was sweet and I wonder what happened to her with WW I and the influenza epidemic in the background.
Do you sell your items at other venues outside of Etsy? If so, where can we find you?
I have an online shop through Shopify, boulderbluestudio.com and I sell on Chairish, www.chairish.com/shop/boulderbluestudio. I also sell in a brick and mortar home decor/boutique, The BLVD Boutik, Tomball, TX.
