Celebrate ‘Thank a Mailman Day’ with a Vintage Twist 10

Today, February 4th, is Thank A Mailman Day. As a team of vintage sellers who ship many items through the United States Postal Service on a daily basis, we thought it was appropriate to celebrate today and thank our mail carriers.

Did You Know?

  • Pony Express riders were the most famous early American “mailmen”. Their motto was “Neither rain, nor snow, nor death of the night, can keep us from our duty”.
  • In 1775, the Second Continental Congress established the Constitutional Post – the first organized mail service in America.
  • Postage stamps were invented in 1847.
  • In 1863, free city delivery started, and in 1896, free rural delivery began.
  • The Zip Code was first introduced in 1963.

Great post! I find old postage stamps fascinating. They have a story to tell. And…I remember those little wire dog letter/bill holders. Just too cute! Great tribute to our Mail Carriers!

I love my mailmen (although they are both gals). Every day I put my packages out on my porch and every day, they pick them up, scan them, and send them on their way. So much better than the long drive to my PO (I live out in the country) or even the difficult walk to my mailbox. I am blessed!!

When I was little I joined a stamp collecting club. I loved opening up little foil packs with unknown stamps. Our local mailman really does have to travel through every condition to deliver. And my favorite is when I am getting stuff I ordered online;)

Oh my gosh, Molly. I belonged to a stamp collecting by mail club when I was in elementary school too.I was positive that there was something rare in those little packets of stamps that would let me buy a new car for my Mom & Dad. 😀 Oddly enough that didn’t happen but I definitely owe the USPS a round of thanks for triggering my love for collecting.

This is so cool!  Love the idea of thanking your mailperson with a vintage gift!

I consider my mailperson an integral part of the business.  They pick up packages at my home and even gives my dog a biscuit in the process!
