Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in the month of April every year – this year, April 26th. Arbor Day is observed by groups and individuals by planting trees – in community spaces, or even in your own yard.
Fun Facts:
- The first Arbor Day was celebrated on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. An estimated one million trees were planted there.
- On April 15, 1907, Theodore Roosevelt issued an “Arbor Day Proclamation to the School Children of the United States” about the importance of trees and that forestry deserves to be taught in US schools.
- Arbor Day is now celebrated in many countries around the world.
- The Arbor Day Foundation website includes information on how YOU can get involved this Arbor Day.

Trees
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
— Joyce Kilmer
