This week’s Shop of the Week in PetticoatsPlus, owned by Cindy.
What is the meaning behind your shop name?
PetticoatsPlus is a name with punch – something with alliteration – something that marketing says will “stick”. I wanted a name representing clothes and other vintage items; thus, the “plus”. My thinking has proved me incorrect at times, with shoppers thinking I make petticoats or only carry all plus size clothing! haha
How did you get your start selling vintage?
I was raised by a mother who recycled old furniture from the junk yard – one who eventually had her own brick and mortar antique shop. Though I finished a teaching career, my family has always collected and sold most any kind of antique or collectible. After retirement, I volunteered, then worked part time in a local thrift shop. It became apparent that old clothes were not valued here – were trashed. After leaving that six year position, I began rescuing old clothes – reviving and selling them to help my son through college.
What is your favorite item in your shop right now, and what makes it special to you?
I’d have to say my favorite is this 50s black lace dress – so much detail and glam! The model makes it shine! Perfection, in my eyes!
What is the most unusual or amazing item you have sold from your shop?
Wow! After making my sale goal not long ago (1500 sales), it’s hard to think of any one thing as special. I always believe the best is yet to come. This summer I bought the estate of a 1930s 40s circus dancer. She had amazing taste and I have yet to post her costumes!
However, I’ve picked one item I love – so mod (those pant legs!) – and the model sets the tone!
SOLD!
Do you sell your items at other venues outside of Etsy? If so, where can we find you?
I sell locally through Frieda’s Closet in Rolla, MO. It is a consignment shop and I’ve been given a room to “play” in – all vintage clothes/accessories!

Pretty petticoats 🙂
Great shop!! But every time I go to a vintage clothing shop, I see the clothes I used to wear back in the 50s-60s. Guess I’m vintage, too…
Cindy,
LOVE that pantsuit! I had one in the 70s that my mom’s friend loaned me for my first ‘party’… 11 yo co-ed birthday party. lol It was white with cherries that gave it almost a polka dot pattern. It was my favorite thing and was a bit sad to give it back!
Love the fun items you have and can’t wait to see what that circus dancer had!! Heading over to your shop now, as that last LBD has really caught my eye! Thanks for sharing your story with us and much more success to you!
